Joyful Tidings!!! September 2, 2017

Merry Long Weekend Everyone!!!

Here is a historical tidbit on the origins of Labour Day to help enhance your Labour Day celebrations: “Labour Day (French: Fête du Travail) has been celebrated in Canada on the first Monday in September since the 1880s. The origins of Labour Day in Canada can be traced back to December 1872 when a parade was staged in support of the Toronto Typographical Union's strike for a 58-hour work-week….Labour leaders decided to call another similar demonstration on 3 September to protest the arrests. Seven unions marched in Ottawa, prompting a promise by Canadian Prime Minister Sir John A. Macdonald to repeal the "barbarous" anti-union laws.” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labour_Day#Canada)

In addition to that piece of history, Here are some joyful tidings and friendly reminders for your reading pleasure:

CTF OTTAWA VIDEO OF THE WEEK:

“Salvation is an Experienced Reality, Not Just a Historical Fact”

At the heart of the gospel message is salvation. New Testament writers like Paul were Trinitarian at the core of their experience and theology. Salvation in Christ is not simply a theological truth, based on God’s prior action and the historical work of Christ. Salvation is an experienced reality, made so by the person of the Spirit coming into our lives. You can’t have the first two without the third. We need to have the experienced dimension as a vital part of our lives, our gatherings, and the gospel message! Check out this week’s video blog to learn more:

CTF OTTAWA VIDEO OF THE WEEK:

“What is Salvation? How the Biblical Writers Express the Inexpressible”

Biblical writers often say things metaphorically because the realityor truth they are addressing is so much bigger than any one metaphor is capable of expressing. This is the reason why there is such a wide variety of metaphors for salvation, which suggests that no single one in itself will adequately express the reality. Salvation has too many facets to be captured by a single image. Check out this week's video blog to learn more about the multifaceted nature of salvation.

“People will come up to me and ask me to be free of the fear of man. There is one basic cure for the fear of man, it is called the fear of God. You can’t fear both. People will then say ‘well there is no fear in love. How can I love God and fear Him?’ You must not be married….Whoever made up that one is obviously single.”

FRIENDLY REQUEST FROM OUR FRIENDS AT ST. PAUL’S!!!

The amazing people at St. Paul’s sent out a request to members of their congregation this week and asked if we would pass it onto our church as well. It was a friendly reminder that they advertise their building to be scent free because many of their congregation members have serious problems with fragrance (e.g., environmental allergies). So please try to remember not to wear fragrances when present at St. Paul’s. Thank you all so much!

CTF OTTAWA VIDEO OF THE WEEK:

“Distinguishing the ‘Ye’ from the ‘Thee’ in First Corinthians Three”

What is the Temple of the Holy Spirit? In our incredibly individualistic culture, we often read certain scriptures as referring to our individual lives, when the original authors indented them for the gathered community. One of the scriptures where this happens the most is when Paul is talking about the Temple of the Holy Spirit in First Corinthians chapter 3. This is an unfortunate misreading because this happens to be one of the most important scriptures on the local church in the entire New Testament! Check out this week’s video message to hear more:

Joyful Tidings!!! Happy Canada Day!!!

Happy Canada Day Everyone!!!

God is so good and we are so thankful for Him for our amazing nation of Canada. As we consider how blessed we are to be living in a nation that is truly “overflowing with milk and honey,” what better way to celebrate Canada’s 150 birthday than to praise God with Psalm 150:

“1 Praise the Lord.
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.
2 Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.
3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
4 praise him with timbrel and dancing,
praise him with the strings and pipe,
5 praise him with the clash of cymbals,
    praise him with resounding cymbals.
6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord.”

Amen.

Here are some joyful tidings to share with you all :)

"As some might know, Catch The Fire Ottawa is planning to have an outreach in the church parking lot in July for those who live in the neighbourhood.

“Why are we doing this outreach? We know that it is God's desire that not one person should be lost, but that all should come to know Him as Lord and Saviour. However, we know that this is far from the case, especially among people who are self-sufficient, and often successful and prosperous, like some who live in the neighbourhood of St Paul's.  We are hoping that many from the neighbourhood will accept our invitation to come to our outreach, where we plan to give out free hot dogs, drinks and other snacks, and offer fun activities for children. We will have a tent where people may receive prayer if they so desire, and a table with various evangelistic handouts such as the Father's Love Letter and New Testaments, etc. We hope to have a table where people can find the biblical meaning of their names. We plan to make it a fun time for those from the neighbourhood who come, as well as all those from CTFO who volunteer their help.

“In order to prepare the neighbourhood for this event, some of us are doing regular prayer walks, saturating the area with blessing and prayer. If you feel called to join the prayer walking, either in preparation for the outreach event, or to bless the area and saturate it with prayer on an ongoing basis, even after the outreach, Diane and Howie Marsh will help set you up with your own area to walk.

“We hope that many in our church will become involved in helping with this outreach. Very soon we will give details about the areas in which we need help."

Rob Parker from the National House of Prayer (nhop.ca) will be speaking at our regular service on Sunday, June 11 at 2 PM at St. Paul's Anglican Church in Kanata.

Rob and Fran are the founders and Directors of the National House of Prayer.  They heard the call to create an “Embassy of Prayer” in the nation’s capital on Canada Day – July 1st, 2000 after Rob had made a 73 day Prayer Walk from Calgary to Ottawa.  After several years of sharing the vision with other leaders across the nation they moved to the capital in 2004 to begin establishing a ministry that would mobilize prayer for government.

God led Rob and Fran in establishing a strategic and prayerful presence for the government of Canada. Over the past twelve years, thousands of Christian believers have come to pray in the halls of government through the ministry of the National House of Prayer.

Selah Quote of the Week:

"We often equate faithfulness with being steadfast, consistent, dependable, reliable, loyal, true, trustworthy, devoted, and truthful. But if we look at Jesus's teaching, He equates faithfulness with something else—multiplication. Whatever God gives to us, He expects us to multiply and present back to Him."
~ John Bevere

Joyful Tidings!!! May 26, 2017

Happy Friday!!!

Hope you all had a wonderful long weekend last week and that you had a chance to enjoy some of this awesome weather we’ve been getting lately! Here are some joyful tidings and friendly reminders for all of you wonderful people!

AN INTENTIONALLY PROPHETIC PEOPLE SEMINAR MAY 26-27!!!

This free seminar led by April Stephenson centers on developing the gift of discernment within prophetic ministry. The following description was written by April:

This seminar introduces prophetic ministry on a practical level of successfully co-labouring with the Holy Spirit. It spans ministry from delivering and receiving personal prophetic words to releasing God’s word to cities, regions or nations while addressing many of the questions which often arise.

Engaging in the prophetic sphere of the kingdom of God is exciting and infinitely rewarding. Life giving words of God have the potential to heal, restore, position and set in motion people and events. They can create within the spiritual realm what will later manifest in experience or history.

God’s prophetic gift is not limited by time or space and its scope is far reaching. Coupled with a developed gift of discernment, prophetic ministry sharpens in accuracy and more clearly reflects the heart and intent of God. People are quickened to the presence of this God who knows them; structures, blueprints, strategies and solutions birthed from the mind and ways of God become evident. Discernment within prophesy helps us to clearly understand what God intends to do and often how He plans to accomplish it.

This weekend seminar brings to light the activity of the gift of discernment within prophesy and how to develop that revelatory gift. The sessions include teaching, examples from life experience and impartation.

Seminar Schedule:

Session One, Friday May 26, 7:30 – 10:00 P.M. "Choosing to Prophesy"

Session Two, Saturday May 27, 2:00 – 4:30 P.M. "The Revealing Gift of Discernment"

Session Three, Saturday May 27, 7:00 – 9:30 P.M. "A More Complete Word"

This weekend seminar is FREE and we will take up a free will offering for those who would like to give.

Manual: A comprehensive seminar manual will be available for the cost of 10 dollars.

Location: St. Paul's Anglican Church, 20 Young Road, Kanata, K2L 1W1

ROB PARKER AT CTF OTTAWA ON SUNDAY, JUNE 11!!!

Rob and Fran Parker are the founders and Directors of the National House of Prayer.

CTF OTTAWA VIDEO OF THE WEEK!!!

An issue that has caused much confusion is that Paul the Apostle—who was the poster child of grace—sometimes seemed to abide by the law. Was Paul a hypocrite? In this week's video message, David uses scripture to shed light on this puzzling paradox and shows why Paul sometimes did things in accordance with the law. If you are interested in learning more.
