"Let it Go Let It Go"

VERSE (Proverbs 3:5 )

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;

I am sure all of you have heard the song” Let it go” a million times by now, especially if you have a little girl in the house, that song is on repeat in your head at times!!!. I decided to listen a little closer to that song the other day, and what stood out to me was this part: A kingdom of isolation and it looks like I’m the queen,The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside Couldn’t keep it in, heaven knows I’ve tried,Don’t let them in, don’t let them see Be the good girl you always have to be ,Conceal, don’t feel, don’t let them know Well, now they know. I reflected on this a moment and thought how often do we isolate ourselves or try to control and take on everything, out of fear, out of lack of trust even!? God wants us to” Let go, to let it go” whatever it is that we are struggling with or going through.and trust him, and let people that care about us into “ our storms of life. To help us through, to bring insight, encouragement, and love. One of the biggest lies the Enemy wants us to believe is that we have to go at life alone, so we isolate ourselves or conceal the things we are struggling with or hurting in, but God wants us to “Let it Go Let it Go” not hide anymore, and let God.

Producing A Harvest of Righteousness

VERSE

(Hebrews 12:10-11)

“They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness.11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”

Have you ever heard maybe a parent , grandparent or friend tell you “ God loves you too much to leave you comfortable where you are. Besides being a “classic Christian saying “ How does that apply to us!? what does that really mean!? I have heard this saying in different variations over the years in my own personal life. To  me I believe it means God creator of the universe, king of all kings , ruler of all the heavens and the earth, Loves us enough to discipline our hearts in the direction he created us to be, more and more like Jesus. God is a loving God that wants to see us move mountains, stand up to the “ Goliaths” in our lives and overcome all odds of what may seem impossible to man but possible in the eyes of our father. He wants to not only discipline our hearts but our mind as well to think and act as children of God ,so that we may draw closer to his heart, and hear and see what  he is doing in our lives and the world around us or what he is preparing us for. No one wants to be corrected or told what to do, but when it comes from a place of love and the person sees and believes in our potential it produces good fruit in us and to those that receive from us! The same goes for God he sees our potential, the way he created us to be and lovingly pushes us into that direction.

Through God We Can

VERSE (Psalm 28:7-8) The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. The LORD is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.

How many times have you had to do something you know you have too but “don’t feel like it” or maybe you don’t have the strength emotionally or physically to do so, or in my case an idea! Just today I put off writing this devotional because sometimes I am at a blank but God always gives me wisdom when I submit my mind and heart to him, even if I don’t have the ideas he does, and he helps me clear my mind and just write. Whatever your situation may be know that God will help you, whether it is wisdom for an idea or the right word, or strength to get through the rest of the day. Through God we can, when we open our minds, and hearts to receive his help, and even discover joy in doing things we may not “feel like doing “

DISCUSSION(TODDLERS/PRESCHOOLERS)

1. What is something you don’t like doing but have too (eg; cleaning up etc...?)

Temples of the Holy Spirit

VERSE

(1 Corinthians 6:19)

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;

Just today I was talking with a friend about taking better  care of ourselves, and personally sometimes as a mom of little one in this season, some days  I do forget to do this! Whether it be getting enough sleep , eating better, setting healthy boundaries,  exercising , the list goes on.God not only calls us to take care and nourish our minds with his truth, and our spirits with  his goodness, but also our bodies with care for we truly do carry the holy spirit within us and it is God's desire to see us live our best life in him. An illustration is this ; Maybe mom and dad want you to go to sleep because it is late and bedtime,  but even though you are tired you would rather play , and not care about the consequences of not getting enough sleep. Your parents care for you and know that you need sleep, and you function a lot better the next day when you have had a good sleep. God is the same way as our parents,  sometimes we keep doing something we know is not healthy or the best for us but God knows and reminds us that when we do take care of ourselves we can be the version of ourselves that he created us to be.

DISCUSSION(TODDLERS/PRESCHOOLERS)

  1. Do you like to sleep ?

  2. Did you know that sleep is one of the ways we can take care of our bodies for God?

DISCUSSION ( SCHOOL AGE)

  1. Did you know that your body is a temple of the holy spirit ?

  2. How do you think God wants you to take better care of yourself?

A New Creation

VERSE

(2 Corinthians 5:17) Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come .The old has gone, the new is here!

Have you ever heard of the song  “A New Creation” by Dex Alexander ?

I love that song!! I can’t believe it has been 10 years since that song first came out ?! I remember when I first listened to that song, it gave me goosebumps, and gave me tears of joy from it’s beautifully illustrated  powerful message. It reminded me that Jesus has made me a new creation in him, the past is behind me, and his love has covered me in a new skin as his daughter, forgiven. No matter how broken, hurt, or how unacceptable we may feel in front Jesus all he sees is his child. Jesus loves you  with indescribable love, and as a new creation in him we can walk in that truth knowing he broke all the chains and gave us a new name through the cross.

DISCUSSION(TODDLERS/PRESCHOOLERS)

  1. Do you sometimes feel sad, or hurt?

  2. Did you know Jesus came to bring us joy and healing?

He Sings Over Me

VERSE

(Zephaniah 3:17)The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.

Have you ever woken up to a song in your head!? Or even just out of nowhere in your day ,and maybe you can’t help but keep singing the same line. Sometimes these songs that we have in our head are just random songs that annoy us, but I believe that sometimes God will talk to us through song as well. This week I had  the song Holy Spirit in my head since church on Sunday, specifically the same line “let us become more aware of your presence.” Of course I have just been singing that one line over and over and then finally listened to the song again, and as I listened I realized God was singing that over me and reminding me to “ to look for his presence” in every aspect of my life. By singing that line over and over again, I was speaking that truth into my life and current season. Listen closely that song you keep singing might just be the exact truth you need to hear, and let it sink into your soul !

DISCUSSION(TODDLERS/PRESCHOOLERS)

  1. What is your Favorite Song?

  2. Did you know God can speak to you through songs?

DISCUSSION ( SCHOOL AGE)

  1. What song is God singing over you today ?

  2. What is God trying to tell you through that Song ?

PRAYER

Dear father thank you for music , and what a creative God  you are that you would use music to sing over us, and remind us of your love, and truth to speak it into our lives so that we may grow more into who you created us to be in Jesus Name, Amen

ACTIVITY TIME

Take some time this week as a family to write out the lines of the songs or the parts of  songs that stands out to each of you and draw what God is speaking over you around those words! Or maybe God is even stirring up a new song in you or your kids. I  encourage you to write that out or draw it out!

The Heart of the Matter

VERSE

(1 SAMUEL 16:7) God looks at our hearts. “God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Have you ever felt like you needed to impress God? I know I am guilty of this from time to time! I think we all are whether it be trying  to be “perfect”, or filling our lives with good deeds and busyness, that there is no room for healing. In principle it is not bad, to want to be a better person or do good things, but if we are doing these things because we want “to get right” with God and cover the areas of our hearts  that need his loving touch, then that is where the problem lies. God is more concerned with the state of our heart, the heart of the matter, he wants our whole heart, because he  gave us his whole heart through Jesus!

DISCUSSION(TODDLERS/PRESCHOOLERS)

  1. Where is your heart?

  2. what would you like God to see in your heart?

DISCUSSION ( SCHOOL AGE)

  1. what would someone not know about you just by looking at you?

  2. what does it mean to look at someone's heart?

PRAYER

Dear Father, help us to  give our whole heart to you, and not hide behind “good deeds”, and busyness,so that you may heal the areas that need your love, and  extra care. Which will allow us to abandon the need for perfection, and to simply live and love abundantly as freely as Jesus loves us  In Jesus name Amen

Children of God

VERSE

(1 John 3:1) See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

Have you ever watched a movie where the main character is a princess or prince ? As a child I would fantasize about what it would be like to be just like the royalty in those movies, and how fun it would be. Today though I have learned about a beautiful truth; that I am actually already royalty, and so are each of you. We are God's royalty, he calls you by name and places a crown of identity on you as son or daughter of the King of Kings.

What a revelation it is too know that the God that created the heavens and the earth, chose you as his own. You are truly special, royal and favored by the king.In God's eyes, no matter how old or who you are he loves you prince, and princess.

DISCUSSION (TODDLERS/PRESCHOOLERS)

  1. Who is your favorite Disney princess/prince ?

  2. Did you know you are just like that princess/ prince to God?

DISCUSSION (SCHOOL AGE)

  1. You could  be a Prince/ Princess for a day what would you do?

  2. Since you are Gods Prince/Princess what do you think God wants you to do?

PRAYER

Dear Father,  thank you for choosing me and calling me by name as your own prince or princess, help me to always remember to walk in that identity and share with those around me that they too are a son or daughter of an amazing King who favors and loves them In Jesus name Amen
