What do you see?
I had a dream recently where I heard God say, “What do you see?” In my dream, I saw 3 people so that is what I said. Then I heard God say, “Look again.” I looked again and all of a sudden, I could see that they were wearing protective vests–like bulletproof vests--but they were glowing and I could see their bodies through the vests. I heard God say, “Look again.” I looked more carefully and this time I realized that there were far more people present than I had seen at first. I woke up.
I sensed God saying to me that it was time to start looking in the Spirit–not just with my natural eyes. He gave me clear instructions:
1. Look in the natural world and describe what you see–(that’s easy, I thought).
2. Look again, but this time look more deeply, aware of God’s Kingdom, and notice what you see.
3. Look again because there’s even more. God is wanting to lead us into deeper revelation.
We see this modeled in the Bible in Jeremiah 1:11-153(NIV).
The word of the Lord came to me: “What do you see, Jeremiah? “I see the branch of an almond tree,” I replied. The Lord said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.” The word of the Lord came to me again: “What do you see?” “I see a pot that is boiling,” I answered. “It is tilting toward us from the north…”
Notice God asks Jeremiah to look twice.
We see another example with Elisha’s servant. When the servant looked out and saw the enemy surrounding them, he was afraid. But Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. (2 Kings 6:17-20 NIV). In the natural world, he saw only the enemy but when he looked again, he saw the truth.
There are also many examples in the New Testament: John seeing in the book of Revelation (Acts 7:55-56), Stephen’s vision when he is martyred (Acts 7:55-56), Peter’s vision of a sheet filled with animals coming down from heaven (Acts 10:10-16) and so on.
God is calling us to SEE!
The Bible tells us that we are called to walk as sons and daughters of God, just like Jesus did: As He is, so are we in this world. (1 John 4:17 KJV).
Paul prays for the believers:
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. (Ephesians 1:17-19 NIV)
Yes, Lord--we ask that you open the eyes of our hearts. May we see the hope and the riches of the kingdom all around us.
Let’s look...and look again!
