Whirlpools
A whirlpool is a body of rotating water produced by opposing currents or a current running into an obstacle. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whirlpool#cite_note-]
Have you ever stared at a whirlpool swirling in a large body of water, such as a river? They are interesting to watch–especially when something gets caught in the whirlpool and keeps going ‘round and ‘round.
I think that there are times in all of our lives where we get caught in a spiritual whirlpool. I know in my life, I have had to deal with feeling lonely over and over again; or with feelings of unworthiness or regret. I know that the LORD loves me and that I am never alone, yet it seems that I have to re-learn this lesson over and over again.
Have you ever felt this way–that you are going in circles–going around the ‘same mountain’, so to speak? Do you ever feel stuck?
We can get caught up in a spiritual whirlpool when our faith collides with opposing currents of fear, anxiety, infirmity, or unbelief. How do we get free? When we put our eyes on Jesus and off our circumstances, the river of our faith rises, and the opposing currents become so weak we can overcome and move forward in the flow of the Holy Spirit.
Sometimes we are stuck in the same negative emotions and thought patterns because there is an obstacle in our thinking or in our hearts, and the currents of our lives are swirling around the obstacle. Is there a stone of offense in your life? Perhaps you are circling regret? Shame? Unforgiveness? Ask the Lord to show you what is holding you there. With His help, you can remove the obstacles through simple repentance and receiving the forgiveness of the Lord.
With our eyes on Jesus, our faith will rise above the currents of fear, unbelief, infirmity…and we will be free of the whirlpools! Full steam ahead!
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1 NIV
